Alan's 8-pounder

On Saturday September 22nd and Sunday September 23rd, HWK will be celebrating its 25th year of kayaking by hosting the eighth annual kayak fishing tournament, now and henceforth to be known as the "K-Bay Bash". It is being held this year at Kualoa Regional Park (near Chinaman's Hat, yeh?), and is open to the public and all members of Hui Wa'a Kaukahi kayak club.

Two Grand Prizes:

Ocean Kayaks
Scrambler XT Anglers!

Donated by OceanKayaks and Go Bananas Kayaks

This year the First Grand Prize will go to the fisherperson that catches the largest papio (no larger than 10 lb.) and the Second Grand Prize for the Biggest Other Fish. There will also be prizes for 2nd and 3rd-largest "Other Fish", and maybe prizes for other longest, ugliest or whatever-kine fish, depending on what we drag in. (There will be no prize for Most Fish, so please throw the little ones back.)

The tournament will start at 6:00 am and go to 1:00 pm both days. You may launch from anywhere within the Park area, HOWEVER
the finish line will be at Kualoa Camping Area 'A'.
(see map)
where you will see a large yellow Club flag flying, and you must arrive at this flag by 1:00 PM to have your fish weighed in if you want it to count.

The Club will provide the pupus and food for the awards party (Sunday), but contestants will be asked to donate part of their catch (and perhaps some culinary expertise) for the post-contest fish fry on Sunday. Attendees will also need to provide their own beverages. You may leave a cooler or box of your drinks & supplies at the campsite while you fish.

Fish must be caught with hook and line from a kayak. The entry fee is $15.00 for members of either the HWK Kayak Club or the American Canoe Association, and $25.00 for all others. Additional registration forms (with rules) will be available at:

Go Bananas Kayaks, Kapahulu
Twogood Kayaks, Kailua
and Nanko Fishing Supplies, Kaneohe

or by calling Rusty Lillico at 286-6514. It will also be possible to late register ($5.00 extra) on the day of the tournament at the campsite. Non-fishing guests at the Sunday awards party will be asked to pay $10 for food.
