On Sunday October 2nd KYC will be hosting the sixth annual kayak papio fishing tournament. It is open to all members of Kaneohe Yacht Club and Hui Wa'a Kaukahi kayak club. This year we will have a perpetual trophy for the club that catches the largest papio (no larger than 10 lb.) There will be prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd-largest papio as well as top "Other Fish". There may be prizes for other longest, ugliest or whatever, depending on what we drag in. There will be no prize for Most Fish, so throw the little ones back. (There is also a State minimum of 7" - measured from nose to inside fork of tail for all papio.) The tournament will start at 7:00 am and go to 2:00 pm.
HOWEVER
This year, the finish line will be at the Sandbar.
Doug will have his floating condo waiting on the south side of the Sandbar and you must arrive at his transom - still - by 2:00 PM to have your fish weighed if you want it to count.
You still have to start at the KYC boat ramp, but we will tow you back at the end of the awards.
Fish must be caught with hook and line from a kayak. The entry fee is $10.00. Additional registration forms (with rules) will be available at the KYC office or by calling Douglas Peebles 247-9966, or Rusty Lillico at 254-4123. It will also be possible to late register ($15.00) the morning of the tournament from 7:00am to 8:00am.See Rules
