Special events, news & announcements:
The 9th Annual Surf Aloha was blessed, or perhaps stunned, by very large wave sets and a rising onshore wind, which was good for some classes like Kaos & Strike, but not so good for others like Scuppers and the small surf skis. And. of course, it provided high hilarity in the final tandem event! A grand time was had by all, and all the final results are posted on the SurfAloha website, but sadly, it looks like this will have been the last wave for this event. As an all-volunteer enterprise, a dwindling supply of folks willing and able to pour huge amounts of their personal time into putting it all together each year has forced us to close our doors on this project for the last time (unless, of course, somebody steps out of the shadows before next summer...). Particular mahalos to Jodi Dingle and Lois Miyashiro for being the go-to people for this year's event, and let's not forget the dozens of behind-the-scenes volunteers and organizers that pitched in over the many years to make this the great, fun competition it became. Mahalo nui loa, everyone, and don't forget to
Surf Aloha! The 25th Anniversary Hui Wa'a Kaukahi Kane'ohe Bay Bash! was a roaring success, by anyone's standards. Plenty people turned out for the "Dingle Dunk" on Sat and the "Hat-'n-Back" relay race on Sunday. In addition, the 8th Annual Kayak Fishing Tournament pulled in a record 20 contestants and landed a record number of fish! Dennis Harney won a Scrambler XT Angler kayak with his just-barely-in-time 12.5-lb. ulua 'aukea (Giant trevally), and Stan McCrea won the Papio Division with a 8.1-lb 'omilu (Blue trevally).
The full results are here, Details are in The LifelineThe 2nd annual Kaneohe Bay Bash and the 9th annual Kaneohe Bay Kayak Papio Fishing Tournament (KBKPFT) is in the planning stages for Sept. 20 & 21. Once again, we are hoping to give a kayak or two away as prizes, courtesy of Ocean Kayaks and Go Bananas Kayaks.
Other notices:
- The Progressive Fishing Tournament(PFT) for 2008 started with the Jan 6 paddle. If you want to compete this year, you should read the rules first as there is a funny little scoring system for this. Check it out. Also check for your place in the Standings

Legal Stuff
General Meetings are held on the third Tuesday of every month (except December), and are open to the public. We are presently looking for another permanent meeting place, but until we find one, each meeting will be in a different place, I'm afraid. Look on the schedule each month for clues.
Trip Leader's Release and Waiver Form. All paddle leaders should have a copy of this at each event, and ensure that every paddler has signed it before joining the group. Please see the requirement of ACA membership below. This is a PDF version of the waiver form that will print on three pages with all formatting intact. To view or print this form, you need to have Adobe Acrobat Reader installed as a plug-in on your computer. If you don't already have it and want to get it, you can download it for free by clicking this button.
Paddle Ratings: We spent a long time coming up with a system that made sense for the kind of kayaking we actually do here, so please read it carefully. You can also click on the rating icon contained in the event description to see the whole page.
Notice to Non-members: Just because we have posted our schedule on the world stage is not to say that these events are open to the public. Because of insurance concerns, these paddles are for Members only. If you live in Hawaii and are interested in becoming a member and joining us, please e-mail Rusty at the address below for info about coming to one of our regular meetings. Please read the FAQs about the club before you do - there is a PDF version of our new Membership Form here that can be printed and mailed in.
Please Note: There has been a change in the Club dues structure recently - membership in ACA is still required in order to participate in our outdoor activities, but is no longer "free" - as in, "included in your yearly dues." There is an explanation of the dues here. Don't panic. It's still a good deal...
